根据联合古陆的裂离和拼合,中国地质构造演化可分为3大阶段,即前震旦纪陆核形成和古中国地台形成阶段、古地台解体和中国古大陆形成阶段及印支期后中新生代中国大陆继续发育阶段。因此,将中国沉积盆地划为古生代(包括中、新元古代和印支运动期前早、中三叠世)盆地和印支运动后中、新生代盆地。后一阶段与印支期后特提斯构造体系和太平洋体系有关。古生代含气(油)盆地主要分布于不同类型的中新生代盆地叠置在其之上的克拉通内盆地,其次分布于破坏程度低的克拉通边缘盆地、坳拉槽或裂陷槽中。而印支期后中新生代含气(油)盆地主要分布于大陆内裂谷-被动大陆边缘,其次是前陆盆地、大陆内裂谷-坳陷和大陆内缩短挠曲盆地。

The Middle-Cenozoic gas-bearing (oil-bearing) basins in Indo-China are mainly distributed in the continental rift-passive continental margin, followed by the foreland basin, intracontinental rift-depression and shortening the flexure basin in the continent.
