On October 16, 2013, an Laotian ATR-42 passenger aircraft (flight number QV30116) took off from Vientiane Capital and crashed into the Mekong just before its arrival at Pakse Airport. All 49 people were killed in the aircraft, including 44 passengers and five crew members.
