The Singapore government has told foreign television stations in Singapore that the same applies to Singaporean television stations. At a parliamentary meeting, Information Services Minister George Jo said that this measure was necessary to prevent a surge in Singapore’s foreign channels and weaken Singapore’s identity. He said: “If we do not do it carefully, foreign broadcasters will be like ours on foreign newspapers.”
