酉水在湘西自治州内地段长201公里,是沅水最大的支流.发源于湖北省来风县,先后汇纳洗车河、花垣河、猛洞河、古丈河、小酉水等主要支流,流经湘西龙山、保靖、古丈3县,从永顺县出境到沅陵注入沅水.近几年来为配合农田水利基本建设和房屋工程建设,省、州、县文物考古工作者相继在保靖县四方城,古丈县白鹤湾对古墓进行了抢救性的清理发掘.共发掘战国墓葬79座,其中保靖县四方城15座;古丈县白鹤湾64
