《中庸》本《小戴礼记》中之一篇,自宋儒特加提倡,程颐更谓此篇乃孔门传授心法,至朱熹作《中庸章句》乃与《大学》、《论语》、《孟子》并列为《四子书》,自元仁宗,皇庆年间制定科举,其中《四书》用朱子注,从此,学者几靡有不读是书者。明薛瑄云:“《四书集注章句》、《或问》,皆朱子萃群贤之言议,而折中以义理之权衡,至广至大,至精至密,发挥先圣贤之心,殆无余蕴。”(《读书录》卷一)唯考诸其《中庸章句》而穷研之,则其中引而未发,留待后人者尚多,而智者千虑一失者,亦不能日无。本文撰作动机,即欲针对《中庸》“衣锦尚絅”章(通行本第三十三章),其中四处歧义而有待辨疑澄清者,谨略抒管见,期能探赜索隐,显微阐幽,以契合《中庸》之奥旨。
