Objective To explore the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS and reproductive health knowledge and information among women in prostitution in the border areas, so as to increase their awareness of preventing diseases and reduce the health risks caused by the provision of prostitution. Methods A women’s health center was set up to conduct various forms of health education, counseling, and promotion of condom use, qualitative interviews, and questionnaire surveys to assess the effectiveness of interventions by visiting outreaching service providers. Results Through the development of project intervention activities, the level of knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS, awareness of illness, and correct medical behaviors for women in prostitution have been improved to varying degrees each year. The prostitutes who had read the information provided by the project had significantly higher levels of knowledge, awareness of illness, and behavior changes than those who had not read the data. Conclusion After the intervention project activities are carried out, the level of knowledge, awareness and behavior of women involved in prostitution may change to varying degrees, indicating that the intervention of health risks in service areas is feasible and effective.
