The study examines whether the implicit self-esteem of Chinese subjects can be stimulated to influence interpersonal attraction. Through the two experiments, the researchers found that implicit pride in Chinese subjects was not only motivated by their own surname, but also by the surname of the tested mother; participants preferred those who were self-motivated with themselves or their own mothers This preference, which is more obvious after being threatened by self-concept, is suppressed after self-affirmation. The threat to the concept of mother and the threat to self-concept are basically similar. In addition, the mothers’ surnames were more likely to be attracted to subjects than to their own surnames. This shows that the concept of mother belongs to a more positive and positive part of self-concept.
