大冶市图书馆成立于1976年,1983年建成独立的馆舍,面积2100平方米。1998年由市政府投资620万元建成现代化新馆于2000年6月对外开放:占地8.8亩,建筑面积4000平方米。新馆采用全开放式的结构,布局科学、宽敞明亮,为全国县市级一流图书馆馆舍。藏书13万册,持证读者6千余人,设有借阅、采编、书(报)库等部门8个,全年对外开放。现有职工21人,其中高级职称1人,中级职称11人,大专以上学历10人。人冶市图书馆是大冶图书馆事业的核心,担负着全市所有类型的基层馆(室)的业务辅导工作,拥有文献收藏、传递、开发及社会教育、服务等诸多职能。也是本市精神文明的重要宣传窗口,为两个文明建设作出了积极的贡献。先后多次被省、市文化主管
