BASF is accelerating the development of a new process for the direct synthesis of alkenes from syngas. This development project is based on the concept of carbon dioxide (CO 2) waste capture and CO 2 is expected to be used as a feedstock for chemical processes. BASF announced at the 22nd Annual Conversation Conference of News Magazine Practitioners and Scientists in Germany in early October 2008 that it will work on the development of this catalytic process. Synthetic gas-to-olefins technology is expected to employ newly developed heterogeneous catalysts that have been industrialized using Fischer-Tropsch synthesis to convert syngas to hydrocarbons
