Objective To study the changes of serum homocysteine (Hcy) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in patients with cerebral infarction and its relationship with infarct size. Methods Serum levels of Hcy and hs-CRP were measured in 52 patients with cerebral infarction and 30 normal controls, and the relationship between them and infarction area was analyzed. Results Serum levels of Hcy and hs-CRP in patients with cerebral infarction were significantly higher than those in normal controls (P <0.01), and positively correlated with infarct size (P <0.05). Conclusion The changes of serum Hcy and hs-CRP levels in patients have important clinical value in judging the severity of cerebral infarction and evaluating the curative effect.
