Objective To evaluate the effect of using a comprehensive intervention in a normal university to carry out tobacco control among college students. Methods A total of 1 988 students from a normal university in Guangzhou were enrolled in this study. Comprehensive interventions were used to control tobacco smoking. The changes of tobacco control knowledge and attitude before and after the intervention were compared. Results A total of 1 935 students (890 males and 1045 females) received comprehensive tobacco control interventions. Compared with pre-interventions, students learned about 9 tobacco-related hazards such as “filter can reduce smoking hazard” and “ Smoking can lead to male sexual dysfunction ”and other seven kinds of active smoking lead to disease,“ passive smoking can lead to lung cancer ”and other four kinds of passive smoking lead to the correct understanding of the disease and two tobacco control laws and regulations of the correct understanding rate (P <0.05). Compared with the pre-intervention, “indoor ventilation related to tobacco hazards can completely avoid the harm of secondhand smoke to others,” and passive smoking leads to disease-related There was no change in the correct understanding of 2 questions such as “passive smoking leads to lung cancer”. Compared with the pre-intervention, students agree that “smoking is a kind of enjoyment”, etc. have fewer people than before intervention, and the difference is statistically significant (P <0.05). But students agree that “people whose smoking is a mature and attractive sign” have not changed. Conclusion The comprehensive tobacco control interventions have an effect on the improvement of tobacco knowledge among college students, but at the same time it also shows that with the control of tobacco control knowledge, obvious change of attitudes may not necessarily occur.
