Huoqiu County, located on the edge of the Huaihe River, saw a general decrease in rainfall this year. The cumulative rainfall was 354.7 millimeters, a decrease of 666.4 millimeters from the same period of last year. It was 25.4 millimeters less than the same period of 1978, the driest time in history, only 30% of the normal year. Due to long-term drought and no rainfall, dams and dikes in the counties, ditches, weirs and reservoirs have been depleted and dried up. In particular, the state-owned fry plantation breeding farms, which provide high-quality seedlings for more than 500,000 mu of water surface in the county, have suffered serious losses from droughts.
