九寨沟古称中羊峒。九寨沟地处四川省阿坝羌族藏族自治州九寨沟县境内,因沟内有九个寨子而得名。据考证,这里的藏胞原来生活在甘肃省的玛曲阿尼玛卿山脚下的一个强悍的部落,唐初松赞干布东征松州时他们被留在了白水江畔。《唐书·吐蕃传》中记载了唐初吐蕃东征时,松赞干布以勇悍善战的河曲部为先锋,曾占领松州。后部分人马被留在了弓杠岭下,他们将原河曲的俄洛女神山的传说及部落出生说带到了九寨沟内,九寨沟色嫫山名及俄洛色嫫的传说均源于河曲。达戈山名的达戈是“雄马”的意思,白水羌系白马人的先民,他们崇拜白色雄马,故流经白马羌人住地的河都叫白马河(后简称白河),白马河藏语为达戈楚惹。
