This article uses contemporary consumer culture theory to analyze the broad consumer culture scene presented by Saclay in Vanity Fair. It finds that the consumption of the characters in the novel has the characteristics of symbolic consumption and conspicuous consumption, while the female has the attributes of consumer goods as the aesthetic object. Finally, this article points out that Saclay holds a contradictory attitude to the consumption ideology in the text.
