Preface A common method of measuring energy expenditure or oxygen absorption is the Douglas pocket technique. When using this method, the patient is provided with a nose clip that breathes through the mask and the exhaled air is collected in one pocket. Measurement of exhaled volume, collection time, and oxygen content in the bag allows calculation of oxygen absorption or energy expenditure. Kofranyi-Michaelis breath meter method is to use a dry gas meter to measure the volume of exhaled air. The exhaled air samples were removed with a gas-tight syringe and then sent to the analysis site. The main disadvantage of these methods is the measurement time consuming and the need for a fixed gas analysis device. Means that in real life can not be engaged in many activities. In physiological research and clinical applications, continuous changes in energy expenditure and the immediate availability of results are valuable. With the above-mentioned technology can not meet these requirements.
