《新闻记者》1987年第6期刊有《申报》究竟发行了几号?》一文,其中提到该报对1873年12月2日这天的编号发生重复,并未更正,认为终刊号应该增加一号。事实上,《申报》从创刊到终刊发行了78年,历经动乱,出版日期和编号差错较多。笔者在最近整理影印全套《申报》过程中就发现不少情况,现作如下报道,以供关心中国近代报刊史的同志参考。报纸编号是记录它出版的次序,即每出一次,编列一号,如果中间停刊不出,当然就不编入。但是,《申报》在长期出版过程中,由于发生战争,节日休刊,排字错误,校对疏忽等等原因,出现了有的缺

However, during the long-term publication of the “Shenbao”, there were some shortages because of warfare, holiday breakouts, typographical errors, proofreading negligence, etc.
