管城区是郑州市老城区,辖区总体面积约为210平方公里,由于是老城区,在“九五”前,管城区城市基础设施薄弱,整体环境差,严重制约了社会及经济的发展。“九五”期间,区委、区政府审时度势,一方面大力加强基础设施建设,努力改善整体环境,对东、西大街,紫荆山路及郑汴路等进行扩宽改造,另一方面根据市场要求,加大产业结构调整力度,为社会和经济的可持续发展奠定了坚实的基础,创建了一个良好的创业平台。在1996年第一次基本单位普查时,我区基本单位经营状况比重分布为“二三一”型的结构,随着管城区经济进一步发展,产业结构正逐步向现代经济的产业格局过渡,已初步呈现“三二一”排序的雏型。
