The Federation of International Association of Library Associations (IFLA), founded in 1927 in Edinburgh, UK, has now 1,013 members in 112 countries. Currently, IFLA’s headquarters have been relocated to The Hague, the Netherlands, where the General Secretariat is also located. Twenty years ago, IFLA’s membership was mainly from Western European countries and the United States. Only in the 1960s did it take over socialist countries. By the 1970s, 74 developing countries joined the organization. Not long ago, after a long period of negotiation, the People’s Republic of China also announced its membership of the IFLA. Now it’s fair to say that IFLA is already a truly international organization.
