Five years after the U.S. Superconductor Super Collider project was shelved, high-energy physicists in the western United States now hope to somehow revisit their old dreams. In 1993, the U.S. Congress decided to suspend the collider project being built in 10 Texas due to the required investment of 11 billion U.S. dollars more than tripling its original plan. At that time, it had cost two billion U.S. dollars and the tunnel had been excavated for 22 kilometers of hydrocarbons, equivalent to one quarter of the plan. The destruction of the project made the U.S. high-energy physicists dejected. Recently, a University of California attorney physicist who advocates the construction of large accelerators said the scrapping of the Texas special envoy led the United States to attack a whole generation of outstanding physicists, forcing them to switch to biology or other disciplines.
