鄞县地处浙东,轮廓呈蝴蝶状,从东、南、西三面拱围宁波市区,今为宁波市辖县。据新编《鄞县县志》鄞县地方志编纂委员会编记载,鄞县置县很早,公元前二二二年今鄞县一带置鄞、鄮、句章三县。隋初并鄞、鄮入句章,数县合一,今鄞县地从此统一归辖。以后县名一度改为鄮县等,所以鄞县有“句章、鄮、鄞”等古称。鄞县在明初属明州府。明州府于洪武十四年(一三八一年)改为宁波府,沿袭至清。此间鄞县均为府(路)附郭县。一九二七年,在鄞县县治另立宁波
