The sediments from Taiwan Shoal are composed of well-sorted and well-rounded fine sand, which contains abundant shell fragments, beach rocks and basalt gravels. With a depth of 30 m, the total area of the shallows is 1.5 × 104 km2. Shoal sand has been in the process of transformation and movement under the effects of huge storm waves and synthetic currents. There is little or no benthic creatures on the shoals, which can be called “desert”. Due to the large amount of shoal sand and the shallower water area, it will be a great potential building material sand resource and a common natural wealth on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. The next step of exploration work must be carried out jointly by the marine science and technology industry and the industry on both sides of the strait. This shallow will surely benefit the people on both sides of the Strait.
