According to foreign sources in Beijing, the U.S.-China trade agreement signed on November 15 will allow Beijing to cut an average of 23% of the tariffs and promised greater access to the Chinese market. Here’s a glimpse at what some of the U.S. companies can benefit from: Phone companies are now limited to equipment sales and will be 49% owned by all telecom services companies in China as soon as they enter the WTO, up from 50% two years later. Foreigners can invest in Internet companies, including content providers that the government says have been banned. Manufacturers can import and export without government intermediaries and sell directly to 1.2 billion consumers in China. They can also be engaged in sale, repair and maintenance services. China will import 20 foreign films a year, twice the current rate, and allow foreign film and music companies to share the proceeds of the distribution. Two years after China’s accession to the WTO, Bank of America can provide services to Chinese enterprises in its local currency and, after five years of joining, provide personal services to China.
