In this paper, a new method for the determination of calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium in vanadium slag by atomic absorption spectrometry was developed. Samples were dissolved in hydrochloric acid - hydrofluoric acid - nitric acid. Calcium was measured in the presence of 2 mg strontium chloride per milliliter; magnesium was measured directly after fractionation; potassium and sodium were assayed in the presence of 4 micrograms cesium chloride per milliliter.
