The authors state that malaria affects millions of people in the tropics each year and that malaria parasites generally resist multiple drugs and are now expanding in scope. Vaccines are an important part of the strategy to control malaria. He commented that Gillett’s notion of flawed malaria vaccine research was incorrect, ignoring the genetic diversity associated with sexual reproduction of the malaria parasite.
