Happy people are more likely to say more things than unhappy people, and when they are open, they are more likely to have substantive conversation than chat. A team of psychologists from the University of Arizona and the University of Washington in St. Louis set out to study whether the types of conversations that each of the happy and unhappy people might have might be different. During the study, the volunteers had to wear an electronic recording device (EAR) that was difficult to detect for four days. It recorded periodic sounds during the daily activities of the subjects.
