The ethanol production process consumes a lot of energy, accounting for about 50% of ethanol distillation and dehydration costs. A membrane system developed by Vaperma Canada can reduce energy consumption by 50%. The company introduced this approach at the recent annual meeting of the American Chemical Engineers (AIChE) in Salt Lake City, USA.
