In May 2015, I took a three-day trip to Israel. During my trip to the Middle Eastern country’s Tel Aviv and Haifa, I was deeply impressed by the two cities’ agricultural development and sewage treatment projects, from which I sensed the persistent spirit of the Israeli people to seek innovation and transform nature.
Israel has a territory smaller than China’s Hainan Island, half of which is desolate desert. Thanks to the painstaking efforts and outstanding wisdom of its people, however, its inhabited regions are beautiful and vibrant.
Jewish people account for only 0.3 percent of the world’s population, but have produced more than 20 percent of Nobel Prize winners. With meager rainfall, Israel suffers from a shortage of water. However, Israelis desalinate seawater into drinkable fresh water and transform sewage into water to irrigate crops and plants. They have built skyscrapers atop desolate deserts. Moreover, Israelis have faced frequent wars in modern history. The harsh, unstable environment has fostered Israelis’ persistent spirit and remarkable wisdom.
For Chinese entrepreneurs, such spirit is worthy of studying. Presently, China is facing pressure from the economic downturn. In these circumstances, Chinese entrepreneurs should brave difficulties and actively seek innovation and advantages from the crisis instead of just waiting for the Chinese economy to rebound itself. This is because every enterprise’s destiny is bound to national fate. It’s entrepreneurs’ responsibility to revive the national economy. This is what I learned from my trip to Israel.
In an era of big data and cloud computing, China’s manufacturing sector is striving towards smart factories, smart equipment, and smart products. In fact, sometimes economic downtown isn’t such a bad thing. It can urge entrepreneurs to seek innovation. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang called for innovation and creativity, so that the country’s demographic bonus can be transformed into a “talent bonus.”Predicaments can inspire innovation. This is a factor in the Jewish people’s advanced industrial products.
Moreover, pressure from economic downturn can help private entrepreneurs pass their businesses to their successors. For instance, my son, Chu Jiang, took my position in Ningbo Ruyi Joint Stock Co., Ltd. at a time when China’s economic development slowed. This made him more capable of properly handling difficulties and pressure. A good hunter fears no beast, and a capable entrepreneur fears no crisis.
