Last year, President Reagan announced in 1989 a total of 10,940 billion U.S. dollars in its budget for science. Superconducting Super Collider (SSC), space station and strategic defense initiative (SDI), have included a huge investment list. But it is unlikely that Congress will be willing to work with the White House to get the United States involved in these massive projects that only feel reckless in spending huge amounts of money after Reagan leaves office. Even in less controversial areas, the final approval by Congress of the budget will be very different from the White House's proposed blueprint.
