Recently, John Carlin, the former governor of Kansas, was named new director of the National Archives. “National Archives Director” is another official title of the director of the National Archives and Records Administration of the United States federal government. The director of the National Archives of the United States is appointed to the President and the Congress of the United States and is responsible for implementing all the relevant documents and archives of the U.S. federal government. The director of the National Archives coordinates file professional activities with the curators of the state and local government archives, but does not instruct or supervise their work. The U.S. state and local government documents and records management departments are independent from the federal government. The Director of the National Archives also coordinates the professional activities of the Archives through the International Archives Council and leaders of the archival systems of other countries in the world.
