黄宾虹曾两次到广西:一次是1928年夏,应当时的广西省教育厅邀请,赴桂林为广西夏令讲学会讲学;另一次是1935年夏,应当时的广西省政府邀请,到南宁为“广西全省中等学校教职员暑期讲习班”讲学。黄宾虹的这两次广西讲学,均与他的忘年交、国学大家陈柱(时任交通大学教授)相关。陈柱是广西北流人,比黄宾虹年幼27岁,与黄宾虹相识于上海,因为热爱书画,尤其服膺于黄宾虹,遂成忘年之交。陈柱与黄宾虹不仅有论画信札往来,后来还让三女陈蕙英
