General Description Tantalum is a refractory metal with excellent electrical, chemical and physical properties required for special applications including electronic components, metal machining, and manufacturing of chemical equipment. Tantalum was discovered in 1802 and was originally used only as a filament in incandescent light bulbs, a century after which it was used industrially. 1940 tantalum capacitor developed. During World War II, the consumption of tantalum increased drastically with the promotion of radar and military radio communications. During the Korean war in 1950, the demand for tantalum in military equipment increased again. After 1958, tantalum in capacitors, superalloys, anti-corrosion chemicals and atomic energy industry, cutting
