On the morning of May 25, 1949, along the banks of the Suzhou River, a burst of gunshots were heard at the Shanghai Post Building. The bullets hit the Sichuan Road and Bridge leading to the building intensively. Dozens of PLA troops fell on the charge. At this moment, the Red Flag was inserted across the south bank of Suzhou and the small unit of the Kuomintang Young People’s Army retreated to the north bank.
