樊金堂,山西省定襄县砂村人。1920年2月19日生,1937年7月15日加入中国共产党,1939年4月,任五台县公安局长兼任基干游击大队长。在抗日战争中,他带领指挥抗日游击队参加了向阳村击退日军偷袭、陈家营炸毁军用列车、崞县神岗头掩护抗敌剧社突围、县城袭击日伪警备队、伏击季庄日伪军等大小战斗数十起,打死打伤日军近百人,活捉伪军30多人,缴获枪支100多件,解救日军“慰安妇”两名,受到晋察冀军区司令员聂荣臻的亲切接见,被后人誉为晋察冀边区的李向阳。
