The Single European Agreement was signed by 12 member states of the European Community at the European Council in Luxembourg in December 1985. The agreement has now been ratified by all member states and came into force on July 1, 1987. The agreement provides for a deadline of 31 December 1992 for the unification of the European market. The agreement aims to achieve “a borderless Europe” that is to eliminate the barriers to free trade between EC member states. In order to achieve the goal of unifying the European market, the Single European Agreement is accompanied by measures that should be implemented by the end of 1992, among which there is the harmonization of industrial property laws in member states of the European Community. As the laws of industrial property of member countries are one of the factors that cause the trade barriers in the European market, all member states of the European Community want to adopt the industrial production of the European Community in the formation of a unified European market
