The article reviews the development of Chinese popular literature in the history of two violent clashes between Chinese and foreign cultures, and points out that the introduction of Buddhism and the translation of the Buddhist scriptures have all contributed to the formation of vocabulary, syntax, narration, and even the formation of thematic thoughts and genres in Chinese popular literature. In the May 4th period, the status of popular literature also improved with the novel “Save the Country”. The translation literature opened up a clear channel for the popular literature writers to accept new ideas abroad and learn new foreign writing skills . From these two translating tides, we can see that translating to Chinese literature, especially popular literature, has a positive effect on the establishment of genres, thematic thinking, the way of narration and the use of skills. This is also a valuable enlightenment on how we can use translation to further promote the prosperity of Chinese native literature at a time when our current information is more developed and exchanges are swift.
