Theodor Schultz (1902-1998), a well-known American agricultural economist, as a pioneer in the study of agriculture and in economic development, conducted a thorough study of the special considerations developing countries should take in developing their economies In order to obtain the 1979 Nobel Prize in economics. Schultz’s first contribution to agricultural economics was to make agricultural economics an integral part of modern economics while rejecting the tradition of confining agricultural issues to agriculture. He was one of the first scholars to study economic development theory, but he emphasized in his economic development strategy not industry but agriculture.
