Objectives To understand the willingness and influence factors of citizens and poultry workers to accept the two-week short-term suspension of bird flu control measures implemented in Guangzhou City and provide reference for the implementation of short-term suspension in the future or in other regions. Methods Randomly select 3 or more live poultry markets in 12 districts and counties in the city and investigate at least 30 residents of poultry and market respectively to collect the demographic characteristics of the study participants and their willingness to accept the short break and its impact Factors, the use of single factor and multivariate Logistic regression analysis of poultry practitioners on the short-term break willingness to accept the factors. Results A total of 364 poultry workers and 362 citizens were surveyed. The response rates were 91.46% and 87.65% respectively. Citizens’ acceptance of short-term suspension or permanent banning of live poultry transactions within the city was 96.96% and 37.57% respectively, significantly higher than 71.70% (χ2 = 87.48, P = 0.000) and 14.01% (χ2 = 48.55) of poultry workers , P = 0.000); poultry workers worried about the impact of the break, followed by a decrease of income (96.15%), no reasonable compensation (53.57%), and then career problems (34.34%); multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that monthly income ≥ 5000 Yuan, working years <4 years, working hours <10 h / d, think poultry / light poultry increase exposure to H7N9 bird flu and short-term suspension can prevent and control bird flu H7N9 practitioners are more likely to accept a short-term suspension. Conclusion Citizens and poultry workers’ willingness to accept short-term market closures is far higher than their willingness to accept the permanent closure of live poultry markets. It is recommended that before the implementation of the short-term suspension, the government departments should fully publicize in advance and do a good job in economic compensation or employment guidance for poultry workers in order to facilitate the implementation of prevention and control measures such as short-term suspension.
