Cary Tok, a professor of economics at Illinois Institute of Technology in the United States, is 71 years old. Originally Egypt, we spent a full 7 hours chatting in a coffee shop. Many of his academic views are, in my view, very “interesting.” Professor Tork said his life’s economic studies all point to one ultimate goal of finding a road to national rise for a developing country such as Egypt. To this end, he systematically studied the experiences and lessons of East Asian economies such as Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and China. I asked him what he would write if he had come up with a list of policies for the successor to President Mubarak. His answer summed up a total of four.
