Since the opening up of the island to the mainland in 1991, cross-Strait investment has been disproportionately represented. In 2008, cross-Strait relations have been improved and the economic and trade relations have been normalized. However, Taiwan has approved a total of 536.3 million as of 2012 since its opening in 2009. In contrast, in 2012, the mainland approved a total of 2,229 Taiwanese investment projects, with the actual use of Taiwan’s funds amounting to 2.85 billion U.S. dollars.
