Atomic energy research is now entering a new phase. Scientists not only make use of atomic energy as an explosive, but also replaced it with coal and gasoline to become a very simple and effective machine motive force. In this near-torn international situation, the first opportunity to enjoy the “machine” of atomic energy is probably the plane. Since July last year, the United States has officially begun to study the issue of using the aircraft capable of being propelled forward. The work, referred to as the NEPA program (Nuclear Energy for Propulsion of Aircraft, translated literally as “nuclear power to propel aircraft”), includes first-rate U.S. scientists and militarists, several chemical plants and ten aircraft manufacturers, The leader is Fairchild Engine and Airplane Co. The contract with this company is the Army Air Force commander Schwartz.
