In May 2011, Japan’s JX Nippon Oil and Energy launched a set of 3,000 barrels at its Shimane refinery using its high-severity, fluid catalytic cracking (HS-FCC) process / d of the demonstration device, with the smooth operation of the demonstration device shows that the technology is feasible, the company will also build a set of industrial production device using the technology. The HS-FCC process is a new generation of fluidized catalytic cracking processes that crack heavy hydrocarbons under more demanding operating conditions than conventional fluid catalytic cracking processes to produce propylene and butenes efficiently and with high quality. This technology helps to change the current ethylene supply in Japan
