MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of 21-28 nt single-stranded, non-coding small RNAs that regulate the regulation of thousands of genes through complete or incomplete complementarity-matching with the 3’-UTR of the target gene. Recent studies have shown that miRNAs have become the major regulators of many important biological processes, including growth and development, cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. Investigating the mechanisms by which miRNAs participate in the pathogenesis of disease may open up new avenues for the treatment of certain diseases in humans. This review summarizes the findings of the role of miRNAs in the regulation of cardiovascular disease.
