燕赵大地上的人们的风俗习惯也成就了武强年画的发展。在河北地区的农村里,每逢过年过节人们都要放鞭炮、贴年画来祈福辟邪,因此这个地区的有着“家贴一张虎和鹰,年年岁岁保太平”的说法。人们期望通过张贴年画来实现祈福平安、消灾避难、万事如意的愿望,表现了燕赵儿女自强不息的高贵品质。武强年画早期的纸是以原产地的芦苇和麦秸制成的,经过长时间的研制与实验后来使用现在的熟宣纸作为承载物,从颜色和质地上都有了不小的进步,当时用的颜料是完全用植物提取的,也是后来国画和广告中的主要使用的颜料。为便于人们收藏和观赏,武强年画艺人把许多年画作品装裱成画轴、画片、画镜等形式,从而更加贴近现代人的生活和审美。随着社会的发展,现代武强木版年画的装裱与包装工艺逐渐走向高档化。
