If we use Caial’s neuron theory as a milestone in modern brain research, brain science is just over a century old and the path of brain science is very clear. Initially a description of the brain’s general function, it later turned into an analysis of its morphological and physiological basis and gradually more scientists from more disciplines participated in its research from different perspectives. The emergence of the concept of “neuroscience” in the late 1960s is yet another milestone in the process of human understanding of the brain. Since then, the study of the cellular and molecular level has sprung up everywhere, forming a huge torrent hitherto so far. Beginning in the 1990s, people began to call for the importance of integrating ideas in brain science research. This road clearly shows how scientists in this field are trying to navigate the forward direction of brain research. At the turn of the century, the author, as a Chinese neuroscientist, attempts to address the features, trends and prospects of modern brain science development in this article.
