Between 1978 and 1979, the identification of one of the most common mosaic virus diseases in soybean occurred in Nanjing, Jiangsu and Yangzhou in Jiangsu Province. Systematically observed the symptoms of the disease. In the early stage of the disease, it manifested a bright pulse and developed into a mottled mosaic. The leaf margin curled from below to below, and later appeared shrinkage or blisters on both sides of the vein. The diseased root system is poorly developed, producing nodules small and small, and often forms a lush pod and brown markings of the seeds, the diseased plants have green situation. The transmission rate of diseased plants seeds can reach as high as 58.1%. Among the 6 species of aphids, Myzus per-sicae, Aphis glycine, Aphis craccivera, Aphis gossgpii and Rhopalosiphuns pseudobrassicae were able to transmit disease. Sitobion avenae can not transmit disease. The virus host range is very narrow, the determination of the 14 kinds of plants can only be infected with soybeans, can not be infested with other legumes, can not be infected with tobacco, heart leaf tobacco, thousands of red, Zinnia, Mandala And quinoa and so on. The lethal temperature of the resistance assay is 65-68 ° C, the dilution limit is 1: 2000-1: 10,000, and the in vitro protective period is 6 days. Striking virions of size ± 750 × 13 nm were observed under an electron microscope negatively stained with leaching method and phosphotungstic acid. According to the above traits, the pathogen of such soybean virus disease was identified as the Poly virus group of soybean mosaic virus (SMV).
