On June 24, 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) informed San Diego County’s Public Health Service in the Department of Health and Human Services that a case of suspected vaccinia virus was found through sexual contact. The case was reported to the CDC by an infectious disease specialist who applied for Vaccinia Immunoglobulin Intravenous (VIGV) for one case of suspected vaccinia lesions. There are two recent cases of sexual contact: the first sexual partner is the recent vaccination of vaccinia, after sexual partners were not vaccinated. The San Diego County Health Laboratory validated secondary transmission of vaccinia virus to vaccinia recipients and triple transmission of vaccinia virus to unvaccinated sexual partners. Relevant departments of the U.S. Department of Defense are authorized to vaccinate vaccinia. The vaccinees did not have vaccine-related complications, but second and third infections were hospitalized with VIGV. No known further spread occurred. This report describes quadratic sum
