有人在网上问:“什么是沙茶?”看来,发文的网友只是听说,尚未见过沙茶其物,于是顾名思义,以为沙茶与岩茶、石茶同类,是茶之一种。品尝过沙茶、沙茶牛肉之类面食或菜肴的人也曾问道:“这类食物跟茶无关,因何用沙茶命名?”的确,沙茶非茶。“沙茶”二字不过是音译过来的字,是马来语sate的对音,意译叫烤肉串,是一种具有浓郁马来风味的小吃,据说源于印尼爪哇。在新加坡,如今已居十大美食排行榜之首。据说sate得蘸着特制的酱料吃。印尼华人在华文表达时,管sate叫沙爹,不说烤肉串;酱料则叫作沙爹酱,不说沙茶。
