The International Road Transport Organization is conducting a survey on the construction of a “superhighway” across Africa. It is estimated that by the year 2000 people will be able to reach the Baltic Sea or the Black Sea along this unimpeded traffic artery. When this expressway is completed, the motorway network running north and south across Europe will eliminate the old border crossing and connect the Baltic, Black Sea, Middle East, Aegean and Adriatic. There are currently 4,500 kilometers of transport from the European hub (Milan) to Tehran and the Middle East. When the Shinkansen is constructed, not only the distance will be greatly shortened, but the average freight rate per metric tonne of freight will be only 34 U.S. dollars. And now the sea
