It is now generally accepted that the average speed of formation of small animals dentin is 16 μm per day, while in monkeys and humans it is 4 μm per day. The growth of dentin is influenced by the rate of secretory activity of dentin-producing cells, the secretion rate of the dentin-derived cells in the life cycle and the rate of deposition of inorganic substances. Therefore, the growth mechanism is still unclear. The authors studied the tetracycline-tagged teeth, gaining insight into the speed and character of various growth lines in dentin. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Ten incisors and premolar teeth of 10 individuals that had been fixed with a 10% formalin solution were longitudinally dissected in the buccal-lingual direction using a diamond sheet and then ground to a thickness of 30 to 80 μm, 1% chromic acid mild corrosion tooth enamel
