西安美术学院工艺系是在原西北艺术学院美术系图案科的基础上,于一九五六年筹备成立的,当时仅设染织一个专业。一九五八年增设装潢设计专业。党的十一届三中全会以后,为适应时代的发展,除对原有专业进行充实调整外,于一九八六年又开办了服装设计和环境艺术设计两个新专业。一九七九年工艺系开始招收研究生并获得硕士学位授予权。现除服装专业外,其它三个专业均为本科四年制。工艺系根据专业区别,成立了四个教研室,分工负责,完成教学计划和科研创作任务。该系还设有专业资料室、专业作品陈列室,除陈列教师和学
